Many homes in new england have walk on flat roof decks with living space under them and 90 percent of these deck roofs leak ruining your rooms. The last thing you want to do is stop that water from flowing off the roof deck so your sleepers must run parallel to the slope of your roof which will mean setting the sleepers in a radial pattern like spokes on a wheel. However i would highly recommend that you consider a that the epdm is lying flat on the roof subfloor without any sharp objects that can puncture the edpm once sleepers are laid over top and placed under load. Deck must be designed to ensure that proper drainage and air flow are maintained. This will provide the surface for you to attach the decking. The best way is to construct a sleeper deck.
