The current alta does not have a built in altimeter to detect floors so it would not be possible to update them so they can count floors.

That being the case it is hardly the sine qua non without which nothing of tracker technology.
I am too late to vote for the idea of floor counting in the fitbit alta but i also had the same reaction when i found out the alta doesn t count floors.
And apple watch looks like a viable option again.
